UEFA Embraces Crypto via Socios
Socios has officially announced its partnership with some of the premier international competitions in world football.
The project took to Twitter on February 15 to make the announcement and confirmed the specific competitions that will indeed be partnering with the project:
“We are thrilled to announce that UEFA Club Competition Fan Tokens are coming to the Socios App.Fan Tokens will be exclusively available for free to Fan Tokens holders of clubs participating in the @ChampionsLeague, @EuropaLeague & @europacnfleague.”
According to The Times’ Martyn Ziegler, the Champions League expects the TV rights of their new-look competition in 2024 to rise to over $5.5 billion a year, which should signal reason to be excited for Socios. Managing to complete a partnership with the competitions mentioned above registers a huge coup for the project.
What does remain unclear is how these particular tokens will translate into opportunities for fans. For fan tokens relating to specific clubs, as we saw with Socios’ recent Serie A foray, the thinking is fairly straightforward. Still, competitions register a new avenue for the project to offer more for fans.
