After meeting with Romanian leaders, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) announced the crypto exchange will open an office in the Eastern European country.

Romania, Meet Binance

Binance, the world’s leading crypto exchange, is expanding in Eastern Europe with its latest announcement that it will open an office in Romania.

Along with Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă and Minister of Digitalization Sebastian Burduja, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) in Bucharest unveiled plans to operate in Romania and launch Romanian language support for the exchange.

Amid inflation, rising energy prices in Europe, and worsening economic conditions aggravated by the military conflict in Ukraine, the growth prospects of cryptocurrency payments in the region are relatively high. Already with 120 million customers worldwide, Binance continues to tap into the potentially huge global market via its strategy of adding individual countries and regions.

“We want to go global by playing locally in multiple markets,” Zhao told Romanian business news outlet Profit.ro. “I think Eastern Europe is extremely important”.

Binance and other crypto exchanges have been the subject of increasing scrutiny from regulatory agencies around the world.

Binance’s approach has been to engage proactively with regulators as it continues to expand, including in Bulgaria (Romania’s southern neighbor), Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

Recently, the exchange has staked out new turf in DubaiItalySpainKazakhstanFranceBahrain and Canada.
