Uber Confirms it Will Eventually Accept Crypto

The company’s CEO disclosed that they actively monitor Bitcoin and other cryptos for future adoption.

Uber Consider Adopting Cryptocurrency

Cryptocurrencies keep drawing interest in the industry as conventional firms monitor Bitcoin and altcoins. Major companies like Twitch, Burger King, AT&T, Overstock, and many others have already adopted Bitcoin as a means of payment. The latest company that looks set to join is Uber.

Uber’s CEO, Dara Khisrowshahi, declared interest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on 11th February during an interview with Bloomberg on Youtube. The CEO discussed the ride-hailing company’s chances of adopting Bitcoin when asked if it could happen someday.

“It definitely could. We are having conversations all the time. I think right now we will see what Bitcoin and some of the other cryptos are. They are quite valuable as a store of value, the exchange mechanism is expensive, its not great for the environment,” Dara said. “As exchange mechanism becomes less expensive, becomes more environmentally friendly, I think you will see us lean into crypto a little bit more.”

According to the CEO’s statement, Uber would accept payment via cryptos if the exchange mechanism becomes cheap and environmentally friendly. However, he added that Uber would eventually adopt crypto at some point.

“So we are absolutely watching it, and if you say is Uber going to accept crypto in the future? Absolutely, at some point. This isn’t the right point, but we will,” Dara asserted.
