Sorare Takes on España, The World
Spain’s top-flight football league, La Liga Santander, has agreed to a non-fungible token (NFT) deal allowing exclusive access to the league’s players with the fantasy NFT game, Sorare.
The partnership will come with licensed digital cards per the Medium blog post from September 9th. Fans will be able to buy, sell, and trade the digital cards of their favorite players from famous teams like FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. Real Madrid will now become the most followed team on social media under license by Sorare.
“At LaLiga we are always looking for innovative ways to offer our fans new and exciting experiences and to broaden the appeal of our competition, the greatest in the world. This partnership with Sorare, the most exciting sports NFT projects today, enables us to reach new audiences globally and gives existing fans additional ways they can get involved with the players and the clubs they love,” President of La Liga Javier Tebas said in the press release.
The deal will usher La Liga into a new era offering accessibility to millions of crypto users outside of Spain and Europe. The move is a major step for Sorare as it joins one of the most famous football leagues in the world. The latest deal brings Sorare together with most of the top 100 football clubs in the world, including global giants such as Liverpool FC, FC Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain FC, and Juventus FC. The team aims to work together with the top 20 football leagues by the end of 2022.
When it comes to global footballing games, getting exclusive licenses from the various world leagues is a key attraction for fans. Providing fans that simulation of major games and likenesses gives Sorare a step above many other fantasy games.

Sorare is a fantasy NFT football game, where users buy, sell, trade, and manage a virtual team with digital player cards. The game uses blockchain technology from Ethereum and was developed in 2018 by Nicolas Julia and Adrien Montfort. The Sorare fantasy NFT game has been making great inroads into the footballing world with 180 officially licensed clubs now participating in the fantasy football game, including such luminaries as Bayern Munich, Juventus, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid.
While Sorare has yet to confirm an international version of its game, it has made known that it hopes to onboard the top 50 football associations in the world. The company already has 100,000 active users a month across 140 countries.
