Philippine Web3 Festival In Full Swing

The festivities shifted into high gear after a few nights of networking and one full day of fireside chats, keynote speeches, and panel discussions for the Philippine Web3 Festival.

With the first day of talks explaining the different aspects of Web3, the second day focused more on the social side of the industry. The talks on November 16 honed in on topics like community, security, investments, guilds, and lifestyle. Day 2 opened up with two keynote speeches on the Web3 Ecosystem, while the first speech after the lunch break focused on what Binance sees in the Philippines.

“I think it’s great to have a young population that falls under the youth category. It’s this generation that will be building the future of technology, the Philippine economy, and blockchain,” Leon Foong, Binance APAC head, said in his speech. “The Philippines has a pretty sizable capital market. But what is interesting is, when you look at the size of the capital markets relative to GDP, it’s still close to about 75%. There is still a lot of room for capital markets to continue growing in the Philippines. The Philippines is a growing country, but what’s more exciting is how we can grow the flow of funds into the capital markets, including digital assets.”

The day concluded with a range of panel discussions that included topics like Web3 Investments, onboarding the next million users into the space, and Esports for blockchain gaming. The conference wrapped up with the awarding of Hackathon winners, where U-HUNK won first place.

The final day of the conference focused on the creators and the artists of the Web3 scene, and the day started off with a bang as Filipino music sensation, apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas, gave the first keynote speech of the day, despite his busy schedule, which included an upcoming performance during the FIFA World Cup. Apl also performed Bebot and Filipina Queen for the crowd at the Marquis events center, while the organizers contributed 1,000,000 Pesos to apl’s foundation.

“These are some amazing opportunities for our creatives in the Philippines so I had to be part of it. [When I first started], I didn’t understand much about [NFTs], but I like the fact that I’m able to help creatives and artists in the Philippines and that’s what really got me into it,” Apl shared on what got him into the space. “I’m pushing for creative arts because I come from it. Through Web3, I can discover and produce more artists and create the industry here [so they don’t have] to leave the Philippines [to make a career out of art].”

Aside from content creation, gaming was also a major focus of the talks for the last conference day. Panels revolving around PlayToEarn models, the hottest games and trends, and player care and safety also took place on this day.

Several side events took place as well. Apart from the usual networking sessions, Bitskwela hosted a Web3 debate called “Bull or Bear” on Wednesday, while Sky Mavis and YGG organized an Axie ESports tournament from Thursday to Friday. “Web3 by the Sea” was an official side event of the Philippine Web3 Festival that took place in the province of La Union after the festivities wrapped up in Manila. Web3 by the Sea was a beach party to help participants unwind and soak in the majestic beaches of the Philippines after a long week of Web3 in the capital.
