Look Out––Walmart Looks to Enter Crypto, NFTs

The American retail giant is looking to take its first into the metaverse enabled by cryptocurrencies and NFTs.

Not Just A Rumor – This Time Could Be the Metaverse

Walmart is in the process of stepping into the crypto verse and the metaverse simultaneously if the latest filings are to be believed.

The multinational retail corporation has filed several new trademarks before the end of the previous year that could reveal its objective to create and sell virtual goods that could be relevant for the metaverse. Another filing showed that the firm is also working on preparing to offer their client their very own virtual currency. The applications were filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on December 30.

Even though the company declined to comment on any specific trademark filings. They mentioned in a statement as quoted by Lauren Thomas of CNBC on January 16, that it is “continuously exploring how emerging technologies may shape future shopping experiences. We are testing new ideas all the time. Some ideas become products or services that make it to customers. And some we test, iterate, and learn from.”

This is not the first time that the community has been excited about Walmart stepping into the game. In September last year, there was a press release that was spread around that Litecoin has entered a partnership with Walmart and will be accepted by the retailer. However, the press release turned out to be fake, and Walmart categorically denied any such development. This time, however, the trademark filings have been confirmed even though there was no specific comment made on them by the company.
