The outage for Dogecoin users on the Binance exchange led to a short-lived spat between Elon Musk and Binance’s CZ.
Musk’s Fights for Doge Hodlers
Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO and the richest man in the world, took a shot at Binance’s CEO, Chanpeng Zhao aka CZ, on Nov. 23, about the issues with the Dogecoin customers on the exchange, even calling it “shady” via a Twitter post.
CZ was quick to respond saying that issue was related to the latest Doge wallet and that the exchange is in touch with the developers on the same. However, he went a step ahead to even question Musk about a glitch in Tesla’s vehicles, posting an article with the headline ‘Tesla software glitch prompts safety recall for nearly 12,000 US vehicles.’
“I’m not aggressive by nature, but I also am not submissive or cowardly when it comes to defending our business. I view defending Binance as my job and defending… the crypto industry as my life’s mission,” added CZ a few hours later in an interview with Yahoo Finance where he spoke positively about the incident.
However, a few hours later, Musk replied to CZ’s comeback in a calm composed manner completely ignoring the Tesla software glitch quip CZ had made.
“I don’t use Binance (tried at one point, but signup was too many hoops to jump through), so no inconvenience to me personally. Just raising this issue on behalf of other Doge holders,” said Musk in the same Twitter thread.
To this, CZ replied, saying Musk’s use of the word ‘shady’ was a trigger for him. The word does hold a certain stigma that warranted a response.
“Appreciate it.🙏 I over reacted a bit due to the word “shady.” The KYC part is tedious, and we can’t service US users. You could try Binance.US though. Still a tedious sign up process, but have #Doge.🐕 We are working with their team to fix the issue ASAP,” he stated further in the Twitter thread.
Musk put an end to this conversation that initially started as a spat by saying, ‘Sounds good.’ The whole of Crypto Twitter was put on notice when the two giants sparred publicly, but tensions appear to have found cooler heads.
