Community Developed GameFi Across Lunacia Now Open To Testing

Across Lunacia joins the initial list of projects accepted into Axie Infinity’s builder’s program

Builders Keep Building

Across Lunacia, one of many community-developed games that use Axie Infinity’s NFTs has opened its project up for community testing.

Axie Infinity released an initial list of twelve projects that got accepted into their builder’s program through a Tweet on May 31. Most projects seem to be inspired by existing games in the Web2 space but using Axie Infinity assets. Defenders of Lunacian Land has a similar feel to Vampire Survivors, Axie Pop seems to have gameplay elements closely matching Candy Crush, while Axie To The Moon gave an Axie Infinity makeover to the classic 2D shooter games we’ve seen in the past.

“Axie Infinity has no limits,” Axie Infinity COO Aleksander Larsen tweeted. “User-Generated Content is a major unlock. These teams are all building with the Axie IP prior to us releasing a map editor/game maker. What happens when anyone can build? #AxieVerse”

Across Lunacia is a 2D pixelated Axie adventure game considered a platformer game. Users interested in trying out this new Axie experience can get access to it upon verification of ownership of an Axie NFT. Players make their way through Lunacia by passing through different obstacles and defeating various chimeras along the way. BSC News caught up with one of the project’s core team members, Artic, to know more about the game they’re building.

“Axie Origin and Axie Classic are made by Sky Mavis. These games are where SLP is earned,” Artic shared with BSC News “Across Lunacia is different in that it is made by a third party that is utilizing the Axie IP. Gameplay-wise, Across Lunacia caters to players who enjoy a single-player adventure or roguelike experience. Classic and Origin are more geared towards players who enjoy competitive PvP strategy games.”

Artic met the team currently working on Across Lunacia through various community art contests he hosted starting in 2021. Tito Bansy and PoltNine shared with Artic that they used to make platformer games, so Artic decided to make an Axie-themed platformer game with them through the builder’s program.

“The builders’ program has assisted us with a small grant to put to work towards game development,” Artic continued saying. “They also assisted us in gating game access to Axie owners only by creating the Signature SSO tool. This allows us to verify if a player’s Ronin wallet contains an Axie or not. As the builders’ program expands, I expect it will continue to be instrumental for the success of our game.”

Across Lunacia is in its Alpha stage at the moment and has opened up testing to anyone with an Axie. The team’s goal is to continue building the game to complete it by the end of the year. The team is looking to leverage community-based contributions in the creation and development of Across Lunacia. They want to develop a game that delivers a fun experience that any Axie owner can enjoy and perhaps even add content to. The Axie Infinity builder’s program allows for multiple gaming experiences to be developed while the core team focuses on continuing to develop their Axie Infinity: Origin. Apart from the projects previously mentioned, the builder’s program is also helping develop an Axie-themed brawler game in Axie Brawler, a racing game called Lunacia Cup, and a battle royale titled Mech Infinity.

Rounding off the initial twelve project list for the program are Inter the Dungeon, Hungry Axie, Axieology, Run Axie Run, and Axie Infinity War. Check out Axie Infinity’s latest substack post to learn more about each project.

What is Axie Infinity:

Axie Infinity is a PlayAndEarn blockchain game where players breed, collect, and play with digital pets called Axies and earn from the interactions. It’s built on Ronin, an Ethereum-based sidechain developed by Vietnamese-based gaming studio Sky Mavis. The protocol put eyes on the PlayAndEarn gaming industry back in 2021. The team is building a digital nation where each community member comes together to play, earn, and live in Lunacia.
