Binance.us Hires First Lobbyists For Washington DC

Development signals a move towards growth and compliance within the largest economy in the world.

Binance.us Increase Presence In Washington

A crew of lobbyists and former Congressional aides have been hired by Binance.us. The US franchise of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange will take a more active role in Washington and will now have several insiders to lobby on the behalf of Binance and cryptocurrencies. 

The news surfaced through newly disclosed filing from the US arm of Binance, per reporting by Caitlin Oprysko of Politico. Binance has brought in five new hiring from two firms: Hogan Lovells and Ice Miller Strategies. The hirings are the first by Binance.us

Hogan Lovells:

Ivan Zapien– Partner, Democratic lobbyist who was chief of staff to now-Senate Foreign Relations Chair Bob Menendez (D-N.J.)

Aaron Cutler– Partner, former Republican House aid

Chase Kroll – Director of Strategic Communications, former Republican House aid

Ice Miller Strategies

Jarrod Loadholt– Partner, former House Financial Services aid

Tim Day– Principal, former House aid, notably chief of staff to Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-OH)

According to public filing data reported by OpenSecrets, former Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) also began advising Binance in August. The same month, Binance.us also joined the Blockchain Association, a leading blockchain lobbyist organization in Washington. 

Progress is on the horizon in Washington as a new bill has also been put forth in the US House of Representatives for digital token issuers to have safe harbor. The new hirings come as regulators in the federal government turn their attention toward policing the growing industry.
