Axie Infinity Announces Economic Rebalancing Ahead of Season 20

Read up on what the team has planned for an #AxieEconBalance.

Axie Economic Balance

After asking the community for their thoughts on how to balance the Axie economy, Axie Infinity has released their plans for economic rebalancing before Season 20 starts.

The official Twitter account of the PlayToEarn blockchain project announced the changes on February 3. $SLP emissions on Adventure Mode and Daily Quests have been reduced to zero to rebalance the economy and hope to solve $SLP inflation.

“From the onset, our mission within Axie Infinity has been to create engaging, fun, and rewarding game experiences for everyone.  We believe this is best enabled on top of open, decentralized foundations that allows everyone to collectively contribute, work together, and prosper as a community,” the developers said through their substack post.

Roughly 54% of all $SLP minted comes from Adventure Mode and Daily Quests, where Adventure Mode contributes roughly 40% and Daily Quests is roughly at 14%. Cutting emissions from these sources will greatly reduce the minting of $SLP.

“Adventure mode was originally conceived as a way for the community to learn how to use their Axies. It has outlived its purpose as a way for people to earn tokens from the game,” the team pointed out. “The daily quest, in principle, was great to encourage people to play everyday but it’s now become a mass emission mechanism for SLP. By removing the daily quest we are able to reduce issuance by around 45 million SLP per day.”

Player vs. Player

The remaining SLP emission source comes from Player vs. Player interaction, which the team has also reduced to a certain extent for higher MMR players. The MMR range of 1100-1299 saw a 1SLP reduction per win, while 1300-1499 MMR players, 1500-1799 MMR players, and 1800-1999 MMR players saw a 3, 4, and 5 SLP reduction per win, respectively. The hit comes from those with 2000 MMR and above as they can initially get 18 or more SLP per win, but is now reduced to 12 SLP per win.

The upside is that the team has decided to put back the SLP rewards for players with below 800 MMR as they feel more confident with their anti-botting measures, as well as to add more utility to “weaker” Axies that players can practice with. Another upside is that more players can now earn a share of the AXS prize pool for season 20.

“We’ve expanded the number of leaderboard slots to 300,000 and increased the amount of AXS we’re giving out to 117,676. This will supercharge the competitive Axie scene and create more demand for quality Axie teams in the ecosystem. This equates to a six million USD equivalent prize pool for Season 20,” the team explained.
