One of the most anticipated fields for the use of blockchain technology is the medical sector. A Mexican medical company has taken a leap of faith to utilize blockchain technology to manage its Covid-19 test certificates. Medical Services Company MDS, has created a Covid-19 testing service that utilizes blockchain technology to verify results. The new technology will also allow other medical facilities to access patients’ vaccination history.
According to a Sunday article from local media source iProUP news, MDS Mexico has developed a digital portal enabling its patients to obtain results that are updated in real-time. Results are given physically and include a QR code that can be scanned to validate the results and retrieve a patient’s immunization history on MDS Mexico’s blockchain. The company opted to build its digital platform on blockchain technology to protect patients’ personal data and to prevent the altering of patients’ Covid-19 test results.
According to the news obtained from the MDS Mexico website, “To avoid the falsification of negative results, we began to certify the SARS-CoV-2 detection tests with blockchain technology and cryptographic signature, which protects the information in a unique, immutable, and unalterable QR Code that can be verified worldwide.”
However, MDS Mexico is not the first company to adopt blockchain technology in its Covid-19 innovation. Australian blockchain industry representatives also proposed the country used a blockchain-based vaccine registry to prevent counterfeit results.
