The CoFounder of Rocki, Bjorn Niclas, joined Web3Wire to discuss how his project is set to revolutionize the music scene and bring power back to artists who have been operating in exploitative circumstances.
Rocki is a music NFT platform empowering musicians to earn new revenue streams and listeners to indulge the new wave of music collectibles that may be akin to vinyl collections in the near future.
“I’ve always thought there was a huge opportunity to build something better. As we saw NFTs becoming popular, I saw a need to invent something new,” Niclas explained in the AMA. “So we put together Rocki, the goal was to build a new way of selling music, and a new way for fans to enjoy the music through NFTs.”
With 20 years of experience in the music industry at various levels, be it booking agent, tour manager, or otherwise, Bjorn Niclas has been identifying gaps in an industry that he believes is failing the majority of our artists today.
“The current landscape is that 1% of the artists on Spotify account for 90% of the revenue on Spotify,” Niclas explained, citing research that suggested 8/10 musicians earn as little as £200 a year.
With that in mind, Rocki is offering artists the opportunity to maximize the profits on their artistry and listeners to begin adding to their collections. Just as fans are interested in collecting music in the form of CDs or vinyls through NFTs, this can be indulged further in a way that allows the art form to reward its practitioners fairly.
