Adriaan Brink: Yes – let’s do it.
Q1: Now to start the AMA, please have a quick introduction to the community. What is Fun Token all about?
Adriaan Brink: At a glance – it’s all about FUN! The token was originally created to develop decentralisation in the casino gambling space.
With the takeover in early 2021 by freebitco.in – a site with tremendous traffic and user base, and subsequent merger with BETR – a decentralised sports betting system – FUN is now the largest gambling focussed crypto in the world with a market cap in excess of $200M and daily trading volume > $20M.
We are in the process of rolling out XFUN which is a more performant wrapped FUN token and will then be in a prime position to solidify our position as the destination of choice for decentralised gambling on crypto. You can think of us as the DeFi for gambling.
Q2: Can you tell us a bit about the team and their experience with crypto projects?
Adriaan Brink: I started in the online gambling industry in 1995. It was very early days for the internet and many people at the time questioned the validity of the internet as a whole. Was it too niche or geeky for mass adoption? Was it just a fad?
Somehow much of that now resonates with the current state of the crypto space. I am firmly of the belief that the similarities between those early internet days and crypto today are significant. and crypto will grow over time to be as important as the internet is today in modern life.
I have been in gambling – lottery, casino, sportsbook and social games for 25 years now and am delighted to be leading FUNToken. We are a growing team and already have a deep technical and marketing resource pool primarily from the online gambling world, but also from BETR 4 years in gaming crypto.
Q3: What Fun Token Offers?
Adriaan Brink: FUNToken offers a single place for crypto gamers to invest their funds and use them over a growing variety of gambling opportunities, from the current casinos and soon to be released sports betting systems, through to additional casino, sports and poker entertainment via strategic deals with major players in the industry – all from a common wallet that is totally in the player’s control.
By providing a decentralised player base with player-controlled wallets and tools to facilitate fast and convenient playing we will become a significant force in crypto gambling.
Added to that we have deals with organisations such as Travala who enable flight and hotel bookings with FUN.
Longer-term we will be bringing more and more of the gambling activity totally on-chain – eliminating operator custodial funds holding and bringing a new layer of transparency to gambling.
Q4: Let’s talk about your token. Where can FUNToken be used?
Adriaan Brink: Players can currently use FUN on the recently launched dplay.casino and also to buy flights, hotels and other travel through our association with Travala.com the cryptocurrency vacation booking platform.
dplay.casino is our in-house testbed for innovation and also provides a great selection of games tailored for our audience.
Playes can also use FUN as part of the premium membership program on Freebitco.in. Freebitco.in have 46+ million users and have had a significant uptake in their FUN Premium Membership (where their members buy FUN off-chain as a premium token). In the space of six months, they sold FUN to over 200K members (which is more than double the existing on-chain number of holders).
These members will be brought on-chain as part of the rollout of XFUN. We will be announcing a new casino platform in the next month or two and integration with existing 3rd party major gaming platforms which will increase the content available to our tokenholders.
There are also a number of savings schemes for those who simply want to hold and make a return, most notably on Binance where you can get up to a 45% APY return.
Q5: How is FUNToken solving problems in the gaming space?
Adriaan Brink: FUNToken is fundamentally about putting control of the players’ money back into their hands – where it belongs. By moving more and more of the custodial elements of gambling from the operator to the player we move the control over funds and make it possible for players to interact with multiple different gaming operators seamlessly with effortless movement of funds and more importantly with funds remaining in the player’s non-custodial wallet rather than in the custody of operators when not in use.
Don’t get me wrong. I am not saying that the world is full of dishonest operators or anything – more that we are looking to move the control and flow of funds into a more efficient mechanism where the player is in control and has access to all of their funds at all times.
Players using the XFUN non-custodial wallets are totally in control of their funds and will be able to switch them in and out of various avenues for entertainment at will, rather than going through the older more cumbersome deposit and withdrawal processes, longer-term we will bring the entire financial transaction on-chain.
we did this already with BETR and peer-to-peer sports betting – there was no operator in that system – all funds remained on chain in various states until bets were resolved, this will relaunch on XFUN next year.
Q6: What is the most lethal feature and competitive advantage that distinguishes the FUN Token project from other projects?
Adriaan Brink: I think we have a number of competitive advantages, but if I had to pick one I would say it is the access that we have to the massive freebitco.in user base.
For any crypto project to succeed it needs scale in terms of funds and number of users.
As of this morning there are 204,394 premium members holding 596M FUN for which they paid 346 BTC. This has all happened in the past 6 months.
With 6M monthly uniques the freebitco.in site continues to draw in new players at an astonishing rate. Being able to take advantage of this traffic source puts us in a unique position in the crypto token space.
Add to this a well funded business, experience and code from 4 years operating BETR and the strength of the token and I believe we are in the perfect storm as we launch XFUN.
XFUN will become the utility part of FUN. It is a new token 1:1 to FUN which runs on Polygon using a zero gas fee mechanism to eliminate that friction for the user.
This will all happen in the next few weeks.
Q7: What is the status of the project? Is there any progress?
Adriaan Brink: We have continued to meet our roadmap milestones and are on track to launch XFUN bridge and wallets in the next month.
We launched dplay.casino 2 months ago and it has been a tremendous success, with 75000 players already and good turnover.
XFUN bridge and wallet will enable the integration into both our own and 3rd party gambling sites through a performant and gas-fee free implementation on the Polygon network. I cant stress too strongly the important of the latter – for any token to be used properly we need to get away from the horrendous latency and gas fees on Ethereum. XFUN does that but goes one better by totally eliminating gas for users – basically they will just need XFUN in their wallets to play.
This is our most significant release and will give us the underlying mechanisms to deliver on the various elements of decentralisation that we are pursuing in the gambling space.
Going forwards – we launch another casino in a few months on XFUN and will also be announcing some great 3rd party deals with integration to existing operators – sportsbook, casino, poker – all on the horizon now with XFUN.
