Project K and Axie Origin updates take center stage in the first Developer’s update for 2022

A Sneak Peak At The Progress

PlayToEarn blockchain project, Axie Infinity, has released the first developers update of the new year.

The development team has released more information about the long awaited features of the blockchain game, Project K and Axie Origin. The official Axie Infinity twitter account released the update on January 16.

“Our January Development Update is live! Progress is humming along and we’re gearing up for some major launches in the coming days, weeks, and months!” Axie Infinity revealed through a tweet.

Aside from newly released images for the land gameplay and new battles system, the January dev update also included updates on the growth of the game, an update on the team size of Sky Mavis, and introducing the first piece to Axie lore, Buba. The update also briefly featured their Ronin, their side chain where the game is built on, entering the twitterverse.

Project K and Axie Origins

The team revealed that they’re currently working on the trading feature inside project K. As this is a complex system they’re trying to perfect, the developers said that it could take at least a month for that particular feature alone. In the meantime, they did release some cool images on how items might look like in the game.

On the Axie Infinity: Origin front, the team released more visual updates to the highly anticipated battle system. They released concept art on power ups, as well as more facial expressions for the Axies while battling. The developers also introduced Buba, one of the Axies that will be part of the lore of this metaverse. But one key mechanic that this feature will bring is the existence of starter Axies, free Axies that players can use to start playing and experiencing the game before they fully commit to an economic decision.

A Balancing Act

The team also said in their dev update that they will refrain from buffing or nerfing certain cards while in the middle of the season. This is a response to how the community reacted towards a card rebalancing during season 19, therefore the team said that they will conduct rebalancing efforts more during the offseason so players can experiment with certain combos more freely.

True to their word, they recently released their latest card rebalancing effort on January 17, way ahead of season 20.

“We’ve just deployed a pre-season 20 Balancing patch! We’ve released this patch prior to the release of the season to ensure sufficient time for play-testing.” Axie Infinity announced while providing a link for a more detailed post on the rebalances.

ESports Grants

On the ESports front, the team had a successful first wave for their Esports grant. They were able to allocate 5500 $AXS to support 40 tournaments. This year, they announced that they will be allocating 7500 $AXS to be distributed for over seventy five events during the first half of 2022.

These tournaments need to be able to livestream the event in four languages, English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Tagalog. Application for the Esports grant is open form January 15 to January 25. Head over to their substack page to apply.

A few weeks into the new year and the Axie community is already in for a ride.
