Great, so to kick things off, for those who may be unfamiliar…

1. Please introduce yourself and the team behind Animalia.

You guys can call me Bill. I was exposed to crypto during the ICO boom in 2016 and was curious about blockchain technology due to my background in programming. I also have a great interest in the art field and this exposure kind of prompted me to explore the marriage between art and technology. Me and some other close friends started to experiment on blockchain technology and discuss potential ideas as to what we could possibly do in this crypto space.

The inspiration came from the hype of dog runs by doge and shiba inu during april/may this year. We were actively trading the bull market and noticed that there were numerous dog coins being released. Then more other animals start to pop out including Mark Zuckerberg’s Max Goat. At that time we were overwhelmed by this meme-hype and were asking ourselves how we can capitalize on these. As the NFT became the rage along with the meme culture, the idea about creating an NFT TCG based around meme creatures emerged and from there we started to develop on this Animalia.

Currently based in London, I as a Co-CEO oversee the holistic development and manage the organisation’s mission as the architect behind Animalia. Looking after several things ranging from strategising the high level masterplan (inc marketing, operation, resourcing planning etc) to detail refinement (graphic layout, whitepaper, NFTs, PR etc). We have 3 other core members and we are currently scaling our team for this project:

Eddy (Co-CEO)

Eddy is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and majored in architecture. He is an entrepreneur who runs several businesses in Malaysia, and now occupied full time on Animalia where he leads the operational functions of the business, spearheads the token design, and is involved in the strategic expansion and community development.

Joe (CCO)

Presently, Joe is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and majored in VFX as 3D generalist with previous exp working for Universal and Paramount. He is currently dedicated full time on Animalia where he leads the design concepts and artistic direction of the organization with an extensive understanding knowledge in conceptual imagery creation.

Omega (CTO)

Omega is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Omega leads the engineering team and is responsible for the technical aspects of the game and blockchain development. He is experienced in developing blockchain and gaming applications.

It has always been our interest to learn more about cryptocurrency. We were all active traders and were eager to learn more about blockchain. It is an extremely exciting time to be in the crypto space even now! Please feel free to take a look at our website  for more information.

2. What is Animalia and what are you trying to accomplish with this project?

Animalia is an independent free-to-play online NFT trading card game featuring crypto-inspired meme creatures and gemstones. The game will serve as an introduction of blockchain technology to the world. Players collect rare cards, create their own unique NFTs, build a custom deck, battle with players and sell cards to other collectors. By anchoring in-game assets with BSC-backed digital economies, the users can claim complete ownership of unique collectibles.

Our mission is to enable blockchain access to millions of people around the world. A free-to-play model will open up the opportunity for everyone to join the game and introduce players to blockchain in a fun and educational way. Animalia’s inspiration comes from some of the most referenced crypto meme critters, including the bear, bull, doge, ape and whale. We also closely integrate several crypto terminologies, such as trap, tendies, pancake, rug, cap and so on, throughout the gameplay for an immersive and educational experience, so the new players that are not exposed to the crypto world will be able to learn about it!

On top of that, we are looking to push for a green agenda beyond the idea of blockchain technology. We will be following closely with the WWF list of Endangered, Vulnerable, and Threatened Animals and represent these rare animals in a form of NFTs to raise awareness to the masses. In addition to the blockchain aspect, players will be able to learn about these endangered species too!

Great! and I love to hear about the green agenda. Let’s unpack a bit as there was a lot I wanted to touch on. So first let’s talk about your token

3. Can you tell us about $ANIM and $PHL and how they are used in the platform?

Sure! Animalia $ANIM is our pre-minted governance tokens for the Animalia Kingdom. The development will involve a governance model by its community where individuals will be able to submit innovative ideas and get incentivized for taking part in the voting process. $ANIM staking will be introduced and served as an incentive for holding $ANIM and supporting the ecosystem. These rewards will initially start out high to promote community growth and gradually reduce as Animalia reaches maturity. We will also implement $ANIM tokens as our currency for trading in our marketplace for sale of Titans, Critters, Weapons and Landscape at the Animalia Marketplace. Last but not least, our luck-based card pack function with randomized algorithms to generate collectible rare items will have different tiers, and in order to purchase higher tier card packs, users will have to hold a certain amount of $ANIM tokens to be able to purchase them.

Phylum $PHL is an in-game uncapped utility token that players can earn where it will be integrated into the Animalia game as a play-to-earn currency. The purpose of $PHL is to enhance the Play to Earn loop by bonding and crafting new NFTs, and making in-game purchases. $PHL will also be distributed as a reward through PVE, unranked PVP and ranked PVP. $PHL tokens will initially be added to the various reward pools at a fixed rate per month and will decrease uniformly across all reward pools, meaning that after one year the monthly contribution rate to the reward pools will drop over time.

We aim to attract a large group of active players to participate in the Animalia play-to-earn ecosystem. A fixed amount of $PHL tokens will be allocated to a variety of Play to Earn campaigns such as:

-Seasonal PVP rewards

-Daily Quest rewards

-PVE Quest rewards

-PVP Daily rewards

-Tournaments

Bonding NFTs

The bonding features in Animalia allow players to bond their current NFTs cards to exchange for a new card pack that can be used in-game or traded on the marketplace. At a basic level, players can combine their existing critters NFTs and a portion of $PHL together to exchange a “Card Pack”. This is called “bonding”. The “bonding” feature will result in the selected critters and $PHL tokens to be burned. In the future, we plan on introducing further upgrades to this process, to bond a wider variety of NFTs. A combination of $PHL tokens and NFT’s assets will be required whenever a user uses the Bond feature to exchange for a new card pack.

Crafting NFTs

The Crafting features in Animalia allow players to craft their current NFTs cards to upgrade it into a higher tier that can be used in-game or traded on the marketplace. At a basic level, players can combine their existing critters NFTs and a portion of $PHL together to upgrade and get a random higher tier critter card. This is called “crafting”. The “crafting” feature will result in the selected critters and $PHL tokens to be burned. In the future, we plan on introducing further upgrades to this process. A combination of $PHL tokens and NFT’s assets will be required whenever a user uses the Craft feature.

4. What do you need to get started on Animalia?

The game requires zero knowledge in blockchain to start the game. You simply need internet connection and a PC/Windows to install the game. At the account creation stage you will need an email address and a metamask wallet and that’s it. The game will teach the users about blockchain where they will learn about various animals/terms. Additionally, the game also caters for players who prefers a more serious/challenging/competitive game style.

Does the game require to have any NFTs to start?

Nope

NFTs are not required to start the game. If you would like to upgrade your gaming experience then the users will be welcomed to access the marketplace.

Yes, our intention is to have no barrier for players to join the game and learn about blockchain technology 🙂

5. What’s the gameplay like?

Animalia is a fast turn-based strategy card game of choices and consequences. Each match is a 1 versus 1 battle between two opponents. The players take turns to play cards from their hand to cast powerful spells/weapons (ie trap, cup, candle, pancake, miner’s axe etc), equip mighty gemstones (moon, diamond etc), or summon critters (ape, doge, whale etc) to do battle on their behalf. The game may be played between two human players, or one human and an AI computer opponent. Over time, we expect Animalia to have many variations of battle updates, just like other games that have gone through multiple iterations as well as different types of battle systems.

6. Could you please let us know how NFT is being incorporated into Animalia as a Trading Card Game?

We have a 6 tier rarity system which consists of Free, Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary and Arcana.

The game is free-to-play and we plan to release 120 free cards for free account holders. It will all be available as an in-game item, where any players who play our game would have access to these starting cards to build their deck. Moving on to Common, Rare and Epic tiers, it would be available as NFTs in our card packs and the % will vary.

Whereas for Legendary and Arcana, you could purchase this from the seasonal release and it will have a fixed amount mintable supply. Users can only play 1 Legendary category card in their deck and also only one Arcana card is allowed in their deck. This would balance up the gameplay system to be more fair.

The game mechanism will focus more on players skills, this will bring out the competitive side of the gameplay itself. 

In the Animalia Kingdom, the world is divided into two factions, each owned by a Titan – the fearsome Bull and the mighty Bear. Each player is represented by their chosen ‘Titan’, which determines the special cards and unique power available to them. The objective of the game is to reduce the opponent’s health point to zero before they can do so to you. Titans can be classified into different “species”, each with its own unique abilities and powers.

Different species of Titans would be introduced and released as the development progresses. As a start, we are releasing our first 2 Founders Edition NFT Titans which would be Ursa and Toro. The INO will consist of NFT titans – more details can be found here:

7. As we all know, there are many excellent blockchain games. Then, compared with other games, what are the highlights and competitive edges of this game?

As a gamer ourselves, we understand the importance of gaming experience and we take this seriously in the development of Animalia. To us, NFT is all about artwork and when you combine it with a game, the priority should be aesthetic + gaming, and this became our primary direction in the development of Animalia.

Every piece of NFT artwork in Animalia was meticulously crafted by our remarkable in-house artistic team. All art pieces go through a rigorous process and are fine-tuned to ensure the highest level of artisanship. Please refer to our NFT card making video  to learn more about the process of artwork development.

One of our artists was working on a weapon these few days and we have not shown anyone about this yet. Please see below the WIP artwork:

We put a lot of emphasis in refining the storyline to improve the gaming experience. We believe that the players will be able to immerse themselves in the game through a good storyline and relate with the current trend of meme-cultures. Enzo “Warma” Floch is a top-ranked Hearthstone player and the latest key addition to our advisory board. You can find him here Hearthstone presents many parallels to Animalia, as it too is a digital collectible card game built upon the lore of mystic PVP battle games. Warma’s experience in the field of gaming is a huge asset and his insights will give us a firsthand look from a player’s perspective on how to improve our overall gameplay to ensure it is equitable and enjoyable for all Animalia players. and we believe this further increased our advantage as NFT TCG compared to the one existing in space.

BTW the name of the weapon above we called it as ‘falling knife’, taken from the idea of ‘catching a falling knife’ 🙂
